Sungai Pinang Geography

In Malaysia, one of the most polluted rivers is Sungai Pinang River Basin. It is located at northeast of Penang Island (5°24’N 100°19’E). Sungai Pinang River Basin where Sungai Pinang is the main river comprises of six rivers including Sungai Dondang, Sungai Air Itam, Sungai Air Putih, Sungai Air Terjun, Sungai Jelutong and Sungai Kecil. In addition, the total length of the river is 3.1 km and the total area of the catchment system is 50.97 km2. There is approximately one-third of the river basin area is arable land and the over half is covered by forest.
